October 17, 2024 Update
After five phone calls and three emails to the DMV Sacramento Office, progress is being made, but very slowly. At least I am now in the correct que.

Take Mopeds out of the equation. The 2000-watt motor can be "unlocked" by watching one of the two dozen videos on-line, allowing the Moped to reach seeds of 37-40 mph... meaning it has to be registered as a motorcycle.

The REAL issue for my MC has to do with providing evidence of US Custom Clearence. This is odd, because I did not go to the port and pick up the MC - I went to Ontario, CA to the US Warehouse where HUNDREDS of these MC are shipped aross America

The wholesaler informed me that they pay the Duties and Customs when they ship in a cargo container filled with the MC.

I spoke to another DMV agent, without mentioning my current case, and said that I was "thinking about" buying an MC, detail blah, blah, and I was informed all I needed was the MSO (the pre-tittle), and a packing slip, proof of MC insurnace.

I made the mistake of asking TWO questions to my new DMV contact, and they decided to answer the non-relavent question by pointing me to the correct sub-section inside the DMV. Wow. Now I have another contct at the DMV. I can almost feel a rollerdeck.

I have followed up with my contact with just the one question that will, hopefully, lead me to Nirvana with a license plate. Wish me good luck!

September 2024 Update

We are still waiting for the Department of Motor Vehicles Headquarters in Sacramento, CA to approve registration of the 2000 watt M1p as a Moped in the State of California.

The local DMV in Lancaster CA does not want to take responsibility for Moped Registration for these Non-Tradional Style of Mopeds ("It doesn't look like a Vespa.") and have forwarded all of the paperwork to the DMV HQ.

The Eahora M1p has been registered successfully by other owners at the DMV's in Glendale CA and four other CA DMV locations.

I look forward to providing these units for sale soon. I'm just waiting for October 31, 2024, which is when my DMV Temporary License Plates expire, and the DMV have said the answer will be before them.

Moped registraation ic the State of California has a one-time fee of $23. A motorcycle classification costs hundreds of dollars each year to register with the DMV. For that kind of money, it's worth the wait.
